How To Dry Out Your Flood Bags & Barriers

If you’re reading this, perhaps you have already purchased and successfully used one of our Quick Dam Flood Bags or Barriers. Maybe you are thinking about stocking up on some of our water-activated flood control products and you’re just doing your due diligence.

Either way, you’ve certainly come to the right place. Our Flood Bags & Barriers can be re-used multiple times after they have successfully protected your house from potential flood damage.

All you need to do to ensure that you can re-store and re-use these products is to dry them out correctly. If the Flood Bags & Barriers are to stay in the same position after activated, they can last about 6-12 months. We understand that you may not want or need to keep them out in the same position for that long, but you still want to have them on hand to re-use.

If that is the case, we have some helpful tips that will assist you in drying out your Quick Dam products.

Quick Dams will remain activated until the water completely evaporates from the products. In order to achieve complete evaporation of water from the Flood Bags & Barriers, start by finding a dry place to start the process. The best places to set up the Bags & Barriers to dry out is inside a garage or a shed, against a building and out of direct sunlight

Do not lay the Bags & Barriers out in the sunlight to dry.

Once you have found a good place for your Quick Dams to dry out, lay down a plastic tarp on the concrete surface. We recommend laying down a plastic tarp and letting the Bags & Barriers dry out on top of the tarp in order to avoid a white film that can sometimes be left on the concrete.

This white film is believed to be caused by the metals, calcium, or contaminants in the water that is absorbed by the Bags & Barriers. If you choose not to put a tarp down and you find the white film on your concrete, we suggest Lyme Remover or chlorine cleaner. Make sure to test this on a small area first to ensure it is successful.

Once you have laid the tarp down inside the garage, shed, etc. place the Flood Bags or Barriers on top of the tarp individually spaced out in order to dry.

Over several weeks if left in this drying position, the water within the Bags & Barriers will evaporate and the products will shrink. Once several weeks have passed and the Quick Dams have a crunchy feel to them, then they are ready to be stored away.

You can then store your Flood Bags & Barriers away and then when the time comes to use them again, they will re-activate once they are exposed to water.

See?! Simple! The ability for the Flood Bags & Barriers to be constantly re-used is just one of the ways preparing for a potential flood has been made easier. If you need to stock up on Quick Dam products you can get started right HERE.
